They are further supported by management teams who have worked together extensively on Black Pearl Capital’s investments over the course of its three Funds.
Reza Irani – Chief Executive Officer
Reza co-founded Black Pearl Capital with Abbas Jafarian in 2007. He was formerly on the board of the Albert Abela Corporation and Sogeres SA, being one of the youngest executives ever to hold such positions. He created a global financial services group in partnership with Bank of China affiliate Po Sang Bank in 1994, and previously managed MKS Finance and Management Investment & Trade’s (MIT) UK operations.
Reza holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering and commerce from the University of Birmingham.
Abbas Jafarian – Chief Operating Officer
Before co-founding Black Pearl Capital with Reza in 2007, Abbas co-founded property and asset advisory firm Symphony Partners Plc, where he sourced and structured property and private equity deals within the Eurozone area. During this time, Abbas also sat on the investment committee of several investment trusts, advising them on investment strategy and asset allocation. Abbas was previously an investment executive with Morgan Stanley and has worked at Deloitte and Arthur Anderson.
With a bachelor’s degree in business administration and international relations, Abbas qualified as a chartered accountant with Deloitte in 1992, and gained his masters in business administration (MBA) from London Business School in 1998.
Bjorn Martenson - Investment Manager & Head of the Geneva Office
Bjorn manages the investments of the Black Pearl Capital Partners (BPCP) fund. An active and successful entrepreneur, his sector specialisms include financial services, technology, the built environment, engineering, energy and oil and gas. In 2006 Bjorn founded Dubai-based Interior Automation LLC, which provides intelligent building control solutions and enabled him to become a regional expert in energy saving technologies. Previous positions include international sales roles throughout Europe, the Middle East, India and Australia for industrial corporations such as Alanod and Tridonic.
Bjorn has a bachelor’s degree in international business, graduating with distinction from RMIT University (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology), a diploma in financial strategy, also with distinction, from the University of Oxford and has completed the Real Estate Management Program at Harvard Business School.
Omar Khalifeh – Investment Manager & Head of the Jordan Office
Omar manages Black Pearl Capital’s portfolio in Jordan and the MENA. Before joining Black Pearl Capital in 2012, Omar launched German-based Sasse Facility Management’s franchise in Jordan. As CEO, he successfully grew the business in Jordan to the largest most reputable FM company in the country. He secured the franchise rights throughout the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). He remains the chairman of the Jordan business and MENA regions. Prior to this, Omar spent time in organisations such as Canada Post Corporation, the United States Department of Defence and Saatchi & Saatchi.
Omar has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Ottawa and a master’s degree from Carleton University.
